FREAKY FRIDAY

FREAKY FRIDAY

...except that it was freaky from Thursday through Sunday. Friday was the night it felt the freakiest.  I was sitting in a restaurant with George Bush, Robin Williams, Reba, Elvis, Garth, and George Burns. Yes they were all impersonators (the two that passed gave it away, right?) But it was a night I will never forget.

First of all, the customers were obviously noticing us and our intrusion into their normal world of dinner.  What started as their confused glances morphed into pointing, laughter, and a mom quickly leaving her family the table to go buy a disposable camera at the drug store next door.

We were all having fun of course, as impersonators do at an impersonator convention. Showcasing in front of agents, making life long friends, and learning life lessons was the daily fare at the Rosen during the annual Sunburst Celebrity Impersonators and Tribute Artist Convention in Orlando.

But here at the restaurant we were out of our convention cocoon and the beat was very freaky! I was laughing so hard at Reba's jokes, while engaging in serious political discussion with Elvis, while asking Garth to pass the salt! Freaky.

More memorable than the fun was the genuine good heartedness of the people at that table. We had each other's back. We wanted to see the other one shine in their showcase or help them with any problem they may be struggling with in life. We looked like a gang of mismatched movie actors and actresses but we felt like the A-team linked by an intangeable bond.

Thanks to that night, Reba made me feel confident. Elvis and I actually had a brainstorm that led to his cameo 'Sarah-nade' during my stage showcase. It brought the house down (sorta). And I developed a true friend while waiting with George Burns at the bar for our table. The next day 'Burns' would see me minutes before I took the stage and give me advice only a seasoned and successful comic could share. It made my day and calmed my nerves. It was the beat I needed to rock as Sarah that night in the spotlight.

Then it was back to the convention floor and my promo booth. My  spot was between James Bond and Roy Orbison. When he wasn't talking with potential agents or scouts, the handsome James wasn't checking his spy watch or sipping cocktails with women in bikinis. Nope. We talked about his grandchildren. Freaky!
